SOCIAL PROGRAM

There will be a welcome reception at the National World War I Museum and Liberty Memorial, adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Crown Center on Saturday evening, May 17, 2008, from 6 to 9 PM. Shuttles will be available between the Hyatt Crown Center and the Museum throughout the reception.

The Liberty Memorial was dedicated in 1921 as a lasting monument to all men and women in the war and to those who died in World War I. The main Allied military leaders spoke to a crowd of close to 200,000 people. It was the only time in history that these leaders were together at one place. In attendance were Lieutenant General Baron Jacques of Belgium; General Armando Diaz of Italy; Marshal Ferdinand Foch of France; General John J. Pershing of the United States; and Admiral David Beatty of Great Britain.

The National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial was dedicated in December 2006 and is the only national museum in the United States of America dedicated to WWI. Designed by Ralph Appelbaum and housed beneath the existing Liberty Memorial, the 30,000-square-foot core exhibit was designed to be highly interactive. The Museum features more than 50,000 artifacts -- the world's second largest WWI collection behind Britain's Imperial War Museum.

An evening featuring Kansas City Jazz and Barbecue will be held at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center Ballroom on Tuesday evening, May 20, 2008, from 7 to 10 PM. David Basse and City Light Orchestra with Bobby Watson will be featured during dinner and dancing. Both Basse (http://www.davidbasse.com/Db_bio_1.htm) and Bobby Watson (http://www.ejn.it/mus/watson.htm) are well known jazz artists with connections to Kansas City.

The meeting will adjourn at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 (plenary from 1 to 2:30 pm) so that attendees may visit local area attractions prior to the evening party. For information about local attractions, visit www.visitkc.com.
