SPECIAL DINNER PROGRAM

All attendees at ISSFAL 2008 are welcomed to attend a special dinner program entitled, "The Health Implications of Changing Linoleic Acid Intakes." The program will be held on Monday evening, May 19, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Attendance requires pre-registration via the ISSFAL 2008 website (click here), and the (very reasonable) cost of the dinner is $25.

The purpose of the program is to focus on the question of whether changing linoleic acid intakes (up or down from the current 5%-10% energy) would alter risk for chronic diseases. The Program will be chaired by Jay Whelan, PhD (University of Tennessee), and the following topics will be addressed:

Current Linoleic Acid Intakes and Risk for Cardiovascular Disease
William Harris, PhD (University of South Dakota)
Linoleic Acid Intake and Inflammatory Markers
Kevin Fritsche, PhD (University of Missouri)
Linoleic Acid Intake, Tissue Arachidonic Acid, and Eicosanoid Synthesis
Olaf Adam, MD (Ludwig Maximilians University, Germany)
Have We Overestimated the Nutritional Requirement for Linoleic Acid?
Stephen Cunnane, PhD (University of Sherbrooke, Canada)
